Yes, it is true - western Queens is in fact the beginning of Long Island, even if this picture taken at Gantry State Plaza does not exactly resemble suburbia and lies far from the Nassau County border. Fun fact: I lived in this neighborhood for seven years and loved it. And oh yeah - none of those towering apartment buildings existed back then!
