SaltyDogPhotography > "The Big Duck" near Flanders is definitely a landmark on Long Island. It used to belong to a duck farmer who used it as a store front to sell his wares. Nowadays it's a souvenir shop, selling all kinds of crazy things related to ducks
SaltyDogPhotography > Speaking of ducks, waterfowl are everywhere on Long Island. I am not really a wildlife photographer, but when this flock landed all around me I simply had to take a shot
SaltyDogPhotography > I have to admit that Long Island lobsters are delicious and large piles of lobster traps can be found at most East End marinas.
SaltyDogPhotography > This crazy flag balloon was one of the first to rise during the annual Brookhaven Balloon Festival
SaltyDogPhotography > Old fashioned bicycles, or "beach cruisers" can be found everywhere since they are the main means of transportation on car-free Fire Island
SaltyDogPhotography > Brightly colored ocean kayak resting against protective dune fences
SaltyDogPhotography > Turquoise fishing boat returning to the harbor in sunset light
SaltyDogPhotography > The East Bay Diner in Seaford glows like a dream in nautical green and blue against the almost dark evening sky
SaltyDogPhotography > Some throwbacks to the old Long Island remain, like this little greasy spoon restaurant in Wantagh, sporting sculptures of the "Blues Brothers" out front
SaltyDogPhotography > Long Island can have many different faces and here's a toast to the Good Old West. But actually this oldest cattle ranch in the US lies at the very eastern tip of Long Island's south fork
SaltyDogPhotography > A lantern stands alone on the beach in a tiny boy scout camp on the North Shore
SaltyDogPhotography > Many roads end exactly like this in the towns along the Great South Bay
SaltyDogPhotography > Island deer can be found everywhere along the Fire Island dunes. They are a little smaller than their upstate cousins and during the winter months sport an incredibly thick coat. Since they do not have any enemies they are also quite tame
SaltyDogPhotography > Another island deer a little later in the year, with an already impressive set of horns
SaltyDogPhotography > And yet another deer. They are quite used to humans and either expect some food or will ignore you altogether, even while you shoot pictures from 3 feet away.
